Traveling around the world and in to China has been a life changing experience. Seeing people cultures, traditions and customs varying from time to time and place to place. China is an awesome country and the people are loving and kind. Collectivism is the one thing I love about it and communities and loved ones are always together. What we get from other countries is totally different from the oneness in China. I met my friend Xiaoyi who is awesome above all you can imagine. She comes Heyuan in Guangdong province she majors in English and she is planning to get her Masters in English in the United States. Her family was loving and kind to me it really changed me and touched me above everything.
This was a visit I will never forget. Xiaoyi is a very hardworking lady and she comes from a small town that everybody knows everybody. This was amazing and when I played basketball with them the whole town attended. It is great to see the love of the game of basketball in everyone hearts in China. The young, the old and even the disabled. I was so surprised. The hearts of Chinese young men and women is more of hard work. How much money did you get? a hustle mind of doing what you got to do to get it. Xiaoyi had a small flower business and I was happy to assist her with some tips and advice since I once ran small businesses like that and to top it all am a Business major.
Xiaoyi’s dream is to be successful and become a teacher and she is very focused on her studies. I was impressed by her demeanor. She wants to continue to study overseas if she does get the opportunity and because of her determination I am sure she will achieve her dreams. She is a talented dancer and artist. Coming from a small town and a country that has almost 1.6 billion people she is relentless always to keep her head up high regardless of competition and high unemployment rate. She has a great family and this shows us the heart of always going on and never giving up in life. Wherever you are know that someone else may be worse than you and if you stop working towards your gift someone else will take it from you.
George Saitoti (1945 – 10 June 2012) was a Kenya politician, businessman and American and British-trained economist, mathematician and development policy thinker. As a mathematician, Saitoti served as Head of the Mathematics Department at the University of Nairobi, pioneered the founding of the African Mathematical Union and served as its Vice President from 1976-1979. George Saitoti was killed in a plane crash with his assistant interior minister Honorable Ojode and this death has been a tragic one. I grew up in Daniel Arap Moi error and Prof George Saitoti was the VP FOR 13 years. He died at 66 and we put our hearts towards his family may the Lord bless them. We still have big dreams for Africa like he did and all of our members pass condolences to him and all that lost their lives.
Africans who have access to education do it to the best of their ability and they strive in classes to make sure they understand every single thing that is being taught. The only hindrance is applying this knowledge due to lack of opportunities. When Kenyans for example come to the United States and enroll in High Schools they find it easier in their classes and excel in all areas. Most Africans who lack education due to poverty are unlucky because they can not gain knowledge and they lack opportunities at the same time and growing up like that is like possessing a disability and that is why we are trying to step in and make Big Dreams come true for these children and by showing youths to be able to apply their knowledge effectively which is the most important thing. They tell us that education is the key to success but being unable to apply this knowledge is like using the wrong key in a lock. As humans we should have the ability to touch the future making a difference and leave the past. For wasting the future by not doing anything is more than a curse. We are blessed to fulfill the cultural mandate and do what God has brought us to do but if we do not help one another we fail God’s cultural mandate that God has set for us. To waste is more than to forget and to settle for what we have right now. Being a servant leader means to serve others first for we are created to serve others and we will live in a world that is full of loving kindness. Where do we stand when we look at the future are we just satisfying our needs or are we touching a life and making a difference in it. Are we actually wasting the future for not doing this by fulfilling God’s cultural mandate, oh how I wonder……
